The New Tweed Coast is only 15 minutes from the Gold Coast airport but a world away from the busy beachside high rises that the area north of the border is famous for.

It's nestled between the Pacific Ocean to the east and the contrasting hinterland to the west. The long stretch of coastline has magnificent points, unparalleled surf breaks and a reef break on the southern edge of Kingscliff.

This coastline is part of the Tweed Valley, the crater of the largest extinct volcano in the world, surrounded by World Heritage mountains, National Parks and the beautiful Tweed River.

The hinterland near the New Tweed Coast is where five World Heritage-listed rainforests meet! A great way to explore this area is to take the Tweed Range Scenic drive. A popular stop along this route is Mount Warning, which is actually the first place of mainland Australia to see the sun each day.

The drive also passes through numerous little towns, including Uki and Mooball which are well worth stopping for.

Along the drive is also Australia's famous Tropical Fruit World, which boasts the world's largest selection of tropical and exotic fruit (over 500 varieties). No matter what time of year it is, there's always an amazing variety of fruit in season to sample at their Fruit Tasting Show.

From the miracle fruit, to the ice-cream bean, the champagne fruit, chocolate pudding fruit, lemon meringue fruit, to fruit from chewing gum trees, red dragon fruit and even fruit like banana bubble gum, there is bound to be at least one fruit for everyone.
