Airing Date: May 1st, 2006
Noosa is a hailed as a culinary mecca with a style of food all its' own. Noosa is on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and is one and a half hours drive from Brisbane. The main hub is the internationally famous Hastings Street and is parallel to the north-facing Main Beach and Laguna Bay.
The Noosa Hinterland one day tour allows you meet the local growers and producers and to sample the fruits of their labour. The one guided trail was developed by Hinterland Tours and established in 2004. and is run by Terry Simpson and Noeline Croft. In October 2005, Hinterland Tours and the Netanya Resort joined forces to provide the Netanya Food and Wine Trail and there are 5 stops on the trail. The Garnisha Curries gardens grow chillies, lemon grass, galangal, turmeric, cardamom, kaffir-lime leaves, curry leaf and pimento. The Garnisha spice gardens and curry 'factory' are open to the public, with a choice of guided garden walks, tastings, cooking demonstrations, and special events. The Spice Gardens are very picturesque and there are plenty of things growing on the property to talk about, smell taste and look at. There is also a large packing shed with a large timber table where samples of the products are given.
Kyborg is a 100 acre property (a commercial freshwater red-claw crayfish farm) where the owner, Hilton, has demonstrations which are very informative. Traps are set the day before to provide an opportunity for a spot of fishing which will yield a good quantity of crayfish. There is an island on one of the ponds with a cabana and serving bench where samples of the cooked crayfish are served on a platter with dipping sauce! Dingo Creek Winery has been described as one of the prettiest wineries on the Sunshine Coast and overlooks the majestic Mount Cooroora. It was the first vineyard and cellar door in the Cooloola Shire and specializes in Merlot, Chardonnay , Sweet White, Sweet red, Liquor honey, Liquor Chocolate and Liquor Coffee. The wine tasting and eating area is under a large open- sided, roofed verandah with views of the vineyard and gum trees on three sides. Lunch is laid out at the Dingo Creek Winery.
Carole's Organic Salads is a commercial salad garden producing over 15 varieties of salad greens, is distributed directly to leading Noosa Restaurants and is situated in the middle of a rain forest. Carol herslef provides a guided tour and tastings of some of her greens as well as a talk about how she grows them and how they are used. She also provides afternoon tea in a very picturesque setting under a grove of palm trees. Designed to take full advantage of the breathtaking views of the sea, the National Park and First Point, Berardo's Beachfront Restaurant's front tables are just a towel-length away from the sand.
Floor to ceiling slide-away windows allow the sound of crashing waves to accompany the very modern European bistro-style fare. The ambiance is casual; the interior is new-wave vogue. Berardo's Beachfront Bistro and Berardo's Restaurant and bar use all of the Food Trail suppliers.
Netanya is Noosa's only boutique hotel on the beach. It is situated at the 'Paris' end of Hastings Street. With its beachfront location, Netanya has sweeping views over Laguna Bay. The resort has studio's, one and two bedroom beach front suites and penthouses. It also has a Presidential Suite and a rooftop spa.
