This grand old town on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about an hour south-east of Adelaide, holds more than a hint of Scotland, it also happens to have the reputation as one of South Australia's prettiest towns. Strathalbyn is a designated Heritage Town with more than 30 heritage-listed buildings.
If you're really serious about your antiques, you'll have to visit All In Good Time Antiques. It's run by couple Linda and Paul and restoration of all the antiques is done on site. In this old blacksmith's shop you'll find some more specialized items such as scientific instruments, old signs and antique furniture.
Further up the road you'll find "London House". Lovers of bric-a-brac should not miss this restored house, built in 1867 and now housing quality antiques and fascinating bits and pieces. London House has plenty of heritage shops like the old pharmacy to others like "Highlander Antiques" with its several rooms all beautifully dressed in quality furniture, crockery, silverware and all the items of high Victorian domestic bliss.
More typical of the mainstream is the expansive corner "Antique Market". It adds even more colour and craft and collectibles to a town that always offers treats like rustic angels and very individual teddy bears, beautifully sewn heirlooms of the future and a "depression glass" collection of tableware. The bizarre is open everyday from 10-5pm. One last must see is Strathalbyn's very own lolly shop, you will find all your own favourites here!
