Victor Harbor, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: May 5th, 2007
The coastal township of
Victor Harbor, on
South Australia's Encounter Coast, has long been a favoured holiday destination for generations of South Australians. It's all about the historical charm, sun, surf, stunning views and intimate wildlife encounters here.
By 1936, Victor Harbor had become a popular beach holiday destination for Adelaide's population, with a rail line between
Adelaide and Victor Harbor providing easy transport from the city to the coast.
The famous
'Cockle train' and
Horse Drawn Tram were thrilling visitors over a century ago, and continue to attract visitors today. Other varied attractions, such as the
Penguin Tours and
Interpretive Centre on
Granite Island, the most visited National Park in
South Australia also are popular with tourists from all over.
Between
June and
October whales start returning just off the coast, with the nearby
South Australian Whale Centre full of information on Victor's whaling past.
Whether you are riding a camel on the beach, cycling the coast line, riding the horse drawn tram or cockle train, there's always something to keep you on the move in Victor Harbor and to provide good old fashioned family fun.
