Hawley House, TASMANIA
Airing Date: May 28th, 2002
This Victorian Gothic mansion where animals are the focal point resembles Dr Doolittle's house.
Home to animals of many species, Hawley House is an absolute animal kingdom.
Some of the occupants are fly-by-nighters, others are wild and many are long term domestic residents.
Simon Houghton, the owner is passionate about animals and opens his doors to all of them, including yours. That's right - this is one holiday where pet owners won't have to leave their babies behind as you are welcome to bring them along.
Guests commonly bring animals of the canine variety but at times you'll even find a horse. Animal lovers really are in their element when they visit Hawley House.
In addition to the animals there's a golden beach across the road, exquisite gardens and a vineyard nestled just behind the house, which produces a nice chardonnay and pinot noir.
Comfortable accommodation is offered in both the main house and the old stables, but the real luxury is the rooftop bath. After a quick pre-dinner spruce up, head down to the restaurant for a four course masterpiece with accompanying wines from the vineyard.
The latest addition to Hawley House is the All Creatures church which is a church dedicated to all animals big and small.
