Barcaldine House, VICTORIA
Airing Date: Oct 13th, 2003
The new Barcaldine Country House is a charming gothic-style homestead situated on a picturesque 16 hectare property in the heart of Victoria's spa country.
It exudes English charm, with 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside and three beautifully appointed rooms sleeping eight guests. And the best part - it's only 90 minutes from Melbourne.
There's the King's Room, the Queen's Room and the Princess' Room, all with queen-sized beds and views of vineyards. They each have a double door leading to a private bathroom, and depending on which room you choose, you may also be spoilt with a large antique claw bath.
The more you explore Barcaldine, the more you realise that this house isn't your average B&B; it's as grand as they come. It even has a secret underground cellar that opens up from the floor. Down below are around 3000 bottles of Barcaldine wine, and during your stay you'll not only get a free tasting, you can take home a free bottle of wine with you as well.
Exploring the rest of the house, you'll find a main living area where guests can drink wine and relax by the fire. There is also a grand piano where you can play a few tunes. And a huge library, which consists of a classic Chesterfield collection and a collection of old books from the 17th and 18th centuries.
After reading a novel or relaxing in the main room admiring the view, why not take a stroll through the English Gardens? The gardens contain three cascading ponds leading to four individually decorated garden rooms.
