Madame Tussaud's, London, England, UK
Airing Date: May 5th, 2007
There's plenty to check out when visiting
London:
Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, hundreds of parks and pubs. Then there's
Madame Tussauds, a one-stop-shop for seeing the worlds leaders, sports stars and celebrities, all under the one roof. Its one of the most popular attractions in London and the perfect place to spend a day in old blighty.
The French-born Madame Marie Tussaud created her first wax figure in 1777. In 1802, she went to London and travelled with her collection throughout Great Britain and Ireland. She established her first permanent exhibition on Baker Street in London in 1835 (on the "Baker Street Bazaar"). The museum then moved to its current location on London's
Marylebone Road in 1884.
Today, there are around 200 wax figures on display at the museum. There's actually four Kylie Minogues and four Queen wax figures (the Queen of pop and HRH Queen Elizabeth II, are in fact the only two people in the world to have four wax figures dedicated to them). Only one of each is on display at any one time.
In the
Premiere Night Room, Hollywood icons and stars stand life-like, side by side, including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Stephen Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey.
At the
World Stage the likes of David Beckham mix with Australia's Prime Minister John Howard and England's Tony Blair, along with many of the world's politicians and sports stars, not to mention the Royal Family.
The Blush area at Madame Tussauds is a sparkling live and interactive attraction, that takes you behind the usually closed doors of celebrity soirees and puts you right at the heart of the action, with live actors working the room and building the buzz. There's also the latest celebrity gossip to catch up on and a host of A-list stars to get to know better.
