The Villas, BALI
Airing Date: Sep 5th, 2005
Bali is one of the fourteen thousand islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Since the 1930's Bali has been a popular holiday spot with tourists, in particular Australians. Over time, the island has become a tourist magnet with major shopping chains juxtaposed with local markets, gourmet restaurants along-side local 'warungs.'The main form of accommodation in Bali has always been hotels, but in more recent times people are looking towards buying their own holiday homes which allow hotel quality relaxation in tropical surrounding but with the privacy of home.
Properties can range anywhere from $AUD200,000 for an average 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa with beautiful gardens and swimming pool, to $US3.5million for a more elaborate much larger property. The simplest way to buy a property is with leasehold arrangement. As a foreigner going to Bali, you can get a 30-year leasehold on a property. Freehold property is also an option however there are some legal issues with buying property in Indonesia, so consult a property lawyer before you buy.
A good option for people who are not able to manage their property is to invest in managed villas such as The Villas in Seminyak.
With more than 400 villa style managed properties coming up for sale in the next twelve months, now is probably the best time to start looking! These can be purchased from $AUD250,000 and include the management fee, which organises the villa to be rented out when you are not there. In high season they have a rental potential of $AUD340 per night.
However if you think you might just like a little bit a villa luxury, with out making the purchase, a 4-bedroom palace including butlers and chef start from $AUD520 per night for up to eight people.
