Kauai Adventure, Hawaii, USA

Kauai is the furthest northern, geologically oldest and fourth largest of the main Hawaiian Islands. Nearly circular in shape, Kauai's land area encompasses 533 square miles; 25 miles long by 33 miles wide at its furthest points. The majority of the island's approximately 58,000 residents live and work in coastal areas, leaving the interior of Kauai spectacularly beautiful and pristine.

A great and fun way to see Kauai is through Kauai Backcountry Adventures. Regardless of your age, fitness level or interests, they guarantee the mountain playground will offer an incredibly fun and unique backcountry adventure on the wettest place on earth!

These great activities take place on private lands that are not generally open to the public. Some soar over the Mount Wai'a'e'ale, while others explore deep into the mountain.

You can hop on an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and go places more spectacular than you can ever imagine. This three and a half hour adventure takes you deep into Kauai's interior to the base of Mount Wai'ale'ale. Your journey begins with a familiarization and safety briefing, before you get acquainted with your vehicle and head out to the backcountry. Your guide will lead you through miles of old cane lands, tropical forests, and jungles rich with magnificent scenery.

Make sure you check out Lihue, once the biggest sugar plantation in Hawaii. Around the 1870s, to water the sugar cane, ditches were built to carry water from the mountains.

Now that the sugar plantation is no longer operational, the ditches are used for tubing. Each person grabs a tube and a headlamp and goes for a leisurely float down through the ditches, tunnels and flumes. At the end, grab some lunch and a take relaxing swim in a natural swimming hole.

Another adventure is the exhilarating Zipline, where you wear a harness that attaches to a cable and allows you to 'zip' across above the valley and forest below.
