Whilst we all like to have our creature comforts like air-conditioning, flat screen TV's, and the latest high-tech attractions and gadgets - sometimes its good to just get away from it all, to relax and to get back to basics.

For travellers, the beauty of Santo is unmatched. Amazing blue water swimming holes are connected by underground caverns and majestic mountains stretch from one end of the island to the other.

And for bushwalkers, awesome ravines shrouded in magnificent tropical rainforest are home to jungle birds and beautiful orchids.

Million Dollar Point in Santo is an amazing dive site full of army equipment, fish and coral. Anyone can snorkel or dive at Million Dollar Point for free - and they say there's a million dollars worth of memorabilia under the water! The depth ranges from zero to 40m on this WWII treasure trove, generally with good visibility. Divers can see everything from bulldozers to drink bottles which were dumped here when the war was over.

Matevulu Blue Hole has always been a popular place to stop for a swim. It's 50 metres wide, 18 metres deep and its water is sparkling clear blue. There are several 'blue holes' on Santo - named because their colour is a clear blue.

This is the largest such feature on Santo. Not surprisingly, it's a great spot for swimming and scuba diving.

Canoes are a great mode of transport. They are relaxing to paddle and there are many sheltered lagoons, rivers and waterways to explore in Vanuatu.

The western style canoe is the easiest to use. While the local outrigger canoes look romantic and rustic, they aren't the easiest to negotiate - have a go by all means but chances are you'll go around in circles before you learn to predict where it's heading! (the local secret is to row in a 'J' curve).
