Things to See in Esperance

Municipal Museum
cnr James & Dempster Sts City Centre

Esperance's Municipal Museum housed in the old railway station building contains a Skylab display - when the USA's Skylab space station crashed to earth in July 1979, it made its fiery re-entry right over Esperance.

Cape Le Grand National Park
60km (37mi) E of Esperance

There are four national parks in the area; the closest and most popular is Cape Le Grand, which extends 60km (37mi) east of Esperance. It boasts spectacular coastal scenery, sandy beaches and excellent walking tracks. There are fine views from Frenchman Peak at the park's western end, and good fishing, camping and swimming at Lucky Bay and Le Grand Beach.

Woody Island
16km (10mi) S of Esperance

The 100 or more small islands in the Archipelago of the Recherche are home to colonies of seals, penguins and a variety of water birds. A tour to Woody Island is highly recommended - you'll see seals and sea lions lolling about on rocks, sea eagles hunting prey, and Cape Barren geese, common dolphins and a host of other wildlife, including whales in season.
