Esperance's climate has been described as 'Mediterranean': it's temperate, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. But its climate is also influenced by an area classified as desert or semi-desert, east of a line drawn roughly from Geraldton through Southern Cross to midway between Albany and Esperance, and south of a line drawn from Broome to Halls Creek. These areas have hotter, drier summers and milder, drier winters. In summer, hot, dry northerly winds can blow off this area, pushing temperatures into the mid-40s. Winter weather is generally less extreme; cold fronts coming in from the Southern Ocean bring lower temperatures and much of the annual rainfall.
